Overview
The Oakland County Child Killer is the name given to the unidentified perpetrator (or perpetrators) responsible for the abduction and murder of four children in Oakland County, Michigan, between February 1976 and March 1977. The victims — two boys and two girls aged 10 to 12 — were taken near their homes and held for days before their bodies were left along roadsides, in ditches, and in parking lots in the Woodward Corridor north of Detroit. A multi-jurisdiction Michigan State Police task force pursued tens of thousands of tips but the case was never solved. A DNA profile developed from the victims' bodies has not matched anyone named in connection with the case, and the investigation remains open.
Where it stands
The case has been investigated and reinvestigated for nearly fifty years. The original interjurisdictional task force, which coordinated Michigan police agencies across the Woodward Corridor, disbanded in the late 1970s without an arrest. Renewed forensic efforts followed: in 2012 investigators said DNA testing cleared one long-discussed suspect, and authorities have continued to explore mitochondrial DNA and genealogy, though officials note much of the original evidence is degraded. According to ClickOnDetroit (WDIV), 'Michigan State Police and the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office declined an interview with Local 4 but said the case remains open and that MSP continues to investigate new tips.'
